Baptisms . . .

St John's welcomes all who are seeking baptism, either for themselves or for their children.

As a celebration of new birth, entry into the kingdom of God and membership of the parish community, this is a joyful occasion for the parents and for the whole congregation at St John's.

Baptisms take place during the main service on a Sunday morning, usually once a month. There is no charge for baptism, although many parents make a donation for the upkeep and work of the church.

Weddings . . .

St John's is a beautiful and stately church, the perfect place in which to celebrate before God the beginning of a new life together in marriage.

St John's welcomes inquiries about weddings and the blessing of civil marriages.

The Rutherford Room, in the Parish centre attached to the Church, is available for wedding receptions. The room overlooks a park on Camberwell Road and can accommodate 80 guests.

The cost of a wedding at St John's is as follows:
A single fee of $310 to cover the use of the church, the services of the celebrant, the provision of a Verger, the reqired payment to the Diocese and the work and charges involved in the provision of certificates and state registration. The fee also provides for a contribution to the work of St John's in giving relief to those in need.

A separate payment of $150 is required for the Organist if required. An additional $100 will be required if the Organist is required to attend a rehearsal.

St John's Flower Guild can provide flowers at a charge of $110 (including GST) for each bowl of flowers.

Payment for use of the Rutherford Room and kitchen is negotiated depending on the format of your reception. The costs are very reasonable.

Funerals and Memorial Services . . .

The death of a loved one is a time for celebration and for sorrow. A Christian funeral provides a structure for giving thanks for the departed's life and gifts, for hearing again the Christian conviction of God's love for us in this life and the next and for saying one's last goodbyes.

A new parish centre with a high specification kitchen and ample meeting space is available for refreshments after the service, and the catering group in the parish are pleased to provide food, tea and coffee.

The costs of a funeral are:
A single fee of $290 to cover the use of the Church, the services of a celebrant and the provision of a Verger. This fee also provides for a contribution to the work of St. John's in providing relief for those in need. A separate payment of $135 is required for the organist, if required.
Funerals and memorial services can be arranged by contacting the Vicar:

Confirmation . . .

Once a year, St John's conducts sessions for young adults and older people who wish to seal the commitments made on their behalf in their baptisms by being confirmed. This involves a series of discussions with the vicar, covering some basic teaching on the Bible, sacraments, ethics and offering one's gifts for ministry in the church. People who have been raised in other denominations and wish to be admitted to full communion in the Anglican Church are also admitted at this time, and may wish to attend the sessions beforehand

Admission to communion . . .

Children are regularly admitted to Holy Communion at St John's before they are confirmed. This frees confirmation from being a 'ticket to communion' and sets it free to be a real re-affirmation of Christian discipleship, and also gives the proper dignity to baptism, which has already admitted the person to full membership of the Church.

Parents or children may seek this admission by contacting the Vicar:
    Rt. Rev'd Gerald Beaumont
    Telephone (03) 9882 4851
     E-mail: vicar@stjohnscamberwell.org.au
